Helping your local hospital
Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds support causes across all our hospitals:
-
Oxford Children's Hospital
-
John Radcliffe Hospital (including the Oxford Heart Centre)
-
Churchill Hospital (including the Oxford Cancer Centre)
-
Horton General Hospital in Banbury (including the Brodey Centre).
The following areas are the focus of major fundraising, but there are 600 individual funds across our hospitals – supporting everything from childhood cancer research to individual ward funds – so whatever area of the hospital you would like to help, there is a home for your donation. Contact the fundraising team to discuss how you would like to help.
Oxford Heart Centre Campaign
The £29 million Oxford Heart Centre opened its doors to patients in 2009, taking cardiac care in our region into a new league. A £2 million fundraising campaign has been launched to provide additional medical equipment and facilities, going far beyond the normal resources of the NHS.
So far we have raised over £1 million for this campaign – and have purchased state-of-the-art patient monitors, created a patient garden and funded a high-tech audiovisual link between the Catheter Labs and teaching and conference rooms. This allows direct live communication between clinicians here, across the UK and around the world encouraging collaboration and the sharing and acquiring of the latest medical techniques.
The second phase of the campaign is funding a move for all the echocardiography teams into one specialised area, and an upgrade to the most advanced non-invasive imaging equipment.
Cancer Care Fund
The Cancer Centre Campaign raised over £3 million to help equip the new Oxford Cancer Centre to the very highest standards, and make it a welcoming and calming environment for patients.
Building on this success, the Cancer Care Fund continues to support cancer causes across our hospitals, ensuring that further improvements can continue to be made and that we are able to keep up with the very latest medical developments. We are also currently focussing on a Breast Cancer Screening Appeal, to bring the very latest digital screening techniques to the 25,000 women we see.
The Horton General Hospital and Brodey Cancer Centre
The Horton General Hospital serves around 180,000 people from Banbury and surrounding areas. This population has shown what regard it has for its local general hospital through the generosity toward the Horton General Fund and the Brodey Cancer Centre Extension Appeal.
The Horton General Charitable Fund helps to enhance the hospital environment, fund research and purchase equipment that makes a real difference to patients, as well as contributing to staff development and training – going above and beyond that which standard NHS budgets can achieve.
It is important to note that all money raised and donated to the Horton General Charitable Fund can only be used for the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

The Children's Hospital and Fund for Children
Over 65,000 children are treated in Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust facilities every year. Play areas, state-of-the-art medical equipment, parent beds and classrooms in the Children's Hospital are just a few of the wonderful examples of how that care can be enhanced by charitable giving.
Gifts to the Fund for Children continue to support facilities and equipment to treat, distract and calm our young patients. Whether being treated in the Children’s Hospital, the Neonatal areas, Children's Ward at the Horton, the Cancer Centre – wherever our young patients are being looked after – the Fund for Children is there to make their experience the best it can be.
Breast Cancer Screening Appeal
Digital scanners provide clearer images, detect tumours across a larger area of the breast and use a lower dose of radiation.

The Hospital Innovation and Enhancement Fund
The Hospital Innovation and Enhancement Fund has been created to support pioneering projects that benefit patient care and improve the hospital environment. Not all areas of the hospital receive the same amount of public support, as they may be less visible (like operating theatres) or simply less well known (for example some of our research funds). Clinicians, wards and departments from across all our hospitals can apply for a grant from this fund, allowing us to support the most deserving and creative projects that have the capacity to dramatically improve patient care.
You can support this fund by marking your donation 'HIEF'. Find out more about how you can help.
