Changes to eIDD
As you may be aware, the Royal College of Physicians and NHS Connecting for Health have recently issued a mutually agreed document, A Clinicians Guide to Record Standards|, which includes guidance for discharge summaries. The eIDD team will be seeking to comply as far as possible with this national directive, using this as an opportunity to enhance the current eIDD system.
Currently, there is a programme of work underway to upgrade the software that produces the eIDDs. This aims to improve the performance of the software, and also to address a number of issues that were received in feedback after an enhancement project. Planned improvements include a facility to deliver the discharge summary directly into the GP system, and the further involvement of ward nursing staff to streamline the discharge process.
Any questions or input on the above program is welcome, and can be directed to:

Electronic Delivery Trial – dermatology outpatient letters
From Wednesday 21 April, the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals will be trialling the electronic delivery of dermatology outpatient letters that have been typed up by their transcription service. These will be electronically delivered to GPs via the same in-tray that is currently used by the electronic Immediate Discharge Documentation (eIDD); GPs who have received a dermatology outpatient letter will notice that it is a different type of letter to the eIDD.
If successful, the ORH will be looking to roll this out across other specialties. For more information, please contact:
