Study leave information

Study leave is available for F2 doctors, training grade StRs, SpRs, ACFs and F1 Taster Weeks and ILS.

Doctors please note that retrospective applications will not be accepted under any circumstances. All applications must be received by the Education Centres prior to the date of the course.

Should you be at a hospital other than the John Radcliffe, Horton, Churchill, NOC or Oxford Health (Banbury and Oxford locality only) during your period of study leave, you will need to claim study leave funding from that Trust.


Study leave and ILS/ALS for F1 and F2 doctors

Your study leave officer is:

F1 and F2 doctors applying for ILS/ALS reimbursement should use the study leave form below. The study leave policy includes ALS and ILS as well as other study leave.


Study leave for all grades except F1, F2 and DF2

Please read the following points and also the policy before completing your application.

  • GP trainees 
GP ST1 and 2 doctors
If you are in a GP post at the time of study leave you should apply through the Oxford Deanery for your study leave. 

If you are in a hospital post at the time of study leave you should apply using the Postgraduate Centres' study leave form.

GP ST3 doctors
All GP ST3 doctors should apply through the Oxford Deanery.  
  •  Pyschiatry trainees  

If your base hospital comes under Buckinghamshire NHS Trust, Milton Keynes NHS Trust, Royal Berkshire NHS Trust or Wexham Park NHS Trust at the time of study leave, you should apply to the Trust concerned, not the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. If your base hospital is not part of the Oxford University Hospitals your form will not be processed.
