Working for the Emergency Department (A&E)

An integrated service, led by our Head Nurse, operates from three sites:
  • the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford
  • the Horton General Hospital in Banbury
  • the Minor Injuries Unit at Witney Community Hospital.

In these three facilities we see more than 100,000 new patients every year. The John Radcliffe Hospital also receives regional specialty referrals that are initially assessed in the Emergency Department.

For many years we have expanded the role of emergency nurses; for example, we now have an emergency nurse practitioner service. Experienced nurses who join us have the opportunity to maintain and develop their scope of professional practice and to provide high quality care.

We have a dedicated team to take care of the career development needs of our staff. The team offers academic and clinical development including specific teaching programmes for D and E grade registered nurses, and clinically-based undergraduate and masters degree courses, which are offered in partnership with the local university.
