Geratology

The Geratology Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital has 40 en-suite single rooms, some large enough for a relative to stay overnight if appropriate. The rooms are colour-coded in green, peach, mauve and yellow, with a separate colour for staff areas. This 'zoning' makes the unit easier to navigate for patients.

The unit also features a sensory garden with several seating areas and a range of interesting, easy-to-sustain planting, which forms an important part of the therapeutic process for patients. The garden also has a specific therapy assessment area for patients. It enables patients to practice walking on different surfaces and climbing steps, therefore helping prepare them for their return home.

Geratology is integrated with Acute General Medicine|.

The consultant geratologists (including the academic staff) are involved in general acute medical duties at both the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Horton General Hospital sites.
