Community Paediatrics
We provide a comprehensive range of Community Paediatric medical services for Oxfordshire. There are six consultant-led teams providing locality-based services. The consultants also lead a number of district-wide specialist services.
The current portfolio of services provided by Community Paediatrics includes the following.
For children with disability

Outpatient clinics
Assessment of children with developmental concerns.

Child development teams
Local groups for multidisciplinary discussion of pre-school children, in some areas.

Multidisciplinary assessments
Multidisciplinary assessment of children with complex developmental problems and disabilities.

Children in special schools
Regular medical clinics in Oxfordshire Special Schools.
For children with Down's Syndrome

Medical consultations providing health surveillance for pre-school children with Down's Syndrome.

Statutory assessments
Consultation with children and parents to prepare medical reports used to assess Special Educational Needs.

Annual reviews of statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Transitional planning
Reports prepared to assist transitional planning for children with disabilities.

Child protection
Medical consultations for children and liaison with other bodies over child abuse concerns.

'Looked after' children
Medical consultations and advice given for children who are being placed for adoption and long-term fostering, medical advice on potential prospective adopters and attendance at Permanency Panel Meetings. Medical advice and input into Looked After Children Service within the Community.

General information
Many of these services are provided in partnership with parents/carers, healthcare professionals and voluntary organisations.
Referrals come from GPs and other health and education professionals as well as hospital-based paediatricians, especially paediatric neurologists and neonatologists.
