Paediatric Diabetes

We provide a comprehensive paediatric diabetes service for Oxfordshire, including insulin pumps according to NICE guidelines. All children are seen in clinics at either the Children's Hospital in Oxford, or the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
On occasions we are also asked to provide specialist advice for children's diabetes services in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
The services we offer include:

comprehensive multidisciplinary management of diabetes from diagnosis (age 0-17) to adult transfer at age 18-19

home management with support from three Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses and two Paediatric Diabetes Dietitians

structured education package
-
part-time Diabetes Educator support to schools, colleges and early years settings, with a Paediatric Diabetes Nurse employed specifically to provide this support

intensive insulin regimens including multiple injection therapy and insulin pumps where appropriate

annual reviews on all patients including screening for associated conditions (coeliac disease and thyroid) and complications screening according to NICE guidelines

toddler clinic every three months
-
transition teenage clinic monthly at Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism

management of secondary diabetes and other rare causes of impaired glucose intolerance.
