General Paediatrics

The General Paediatric Service is provided on two sites, the Children's Hospital at the John Radcliffe site in Oxford and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

The service comprises:

  • assessment and management of acutely unwell children
  • assessment, inpatient treatment if necessary or interval review of children referred by their GP or presenting to the emergency department
  • an outpatient service for local children requiring secondary level paediatric care
  • direct referrals from local general practitioners.

Specialist tertiary services are provided at the Children's Hospital, where the General Paediatric Service provides support to paediatric surgeons for some general medical problems.

A small proportion of our work is child protection work, for which there are excellent links with the hospital social services department and the community paediatricians.
