The Paediatric Oncology and Haematology department diagnoses and treats malignancy in infants, children and young adults up to the age of 19. We are one of 21 principal treatment centres in the UK and take about 100 new patients from the Thames Valley region each year.

We have a large and dedicated team including:

  • radiologists
  • surgeons (all specialties)
  • histopathologists
  • radiotherapists
  • access to all medical specialists including psychologists.

The service includes the following.

  • The diagnosis and treatment of all malignancies in children up to their 19th birthday.
  • Paramalignant conditions such as Langerhans' cell histiocytosis.
  • All non-malignant haematological conditions including:
    • haemoglobinopathies - sickle cell disease (SCD) and thalassaemia

(we have  CPA-accredited laboratory facilities for accurate haemoglobinopathy diagnosis and are a designated centre for newborn screening)

The Day Unit, also in the Children's Hospital, was built with the unique needs of children in mind.
