Paediatric Rheumatology
We provide a general and specialist paediatric rheumatology service for the Thames Valley area (Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire) and neighbouring counties, including:

The services we offer include:

management of acute, sub-acute, medium and long-term inflammatory joint disease (juvenile idiopathic arthritis), including joint replacement
-
management of chronic musculo-skeletal and soft tissue syndromes, aches and pains in the growing child, (e.g. anterior knee pain, hypermobility, sports injuries)
-
management of juvenile dermatomyositis and SLE, childhood vasculitis and other connective tissue diseases (including cytotoxic management)
-
management of autoinflammatory conditions (e.g. periodic fevers)
-
management of severe acute multi-system disease, including support on intensive care
-
transitional care for adolescents with inflammatory diseases
-
assessment of localised and generalised chronic pain syndromes
-
diagnosis and management of rare syndromes e.g. skeletal dysplasias (development abnormalities)
-
assessment, prevention and management of osteoporosis (thinning of the bones) in children.

Paediatric rheumatology services are based in the Department of Rheumatology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre |with close ties to the John Radcliffe.
