Biography:
Mr David Cranston D.Phil FRCS is a Consultant Urologist who trained in Bristol. He worked in Exeter and Bath before coming to Oxford in 1983 to do research in renal transplantation under the direction Professor Sir Peter Morris. He was awarded his D.Phil in 1986, and, after a clinical lecturer post in urology and transplantation, was appointed as Consultant Urologist at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford in 1991. He runs general urological clinics in Oxford and Banbury as well as specialist urological clinics for renal transplant patients. He has performed over 400 nephrectomies (operations to remove a kidney), including many from people who have donated a kidney to a relative in need of a transplant. He continues to be involved in the Oxford transplant programme. He set up an active research programme in 1992 with Professor Adrian Harris, Director of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, and currently has a number of research Fellows looking at bladder and kidney cancer. For the last six years he has been involved in setting up a research programme looking at high intensity focussed ultrasound (HIFU) in the treatment of renal and liver cancers.
