Pain Relief Unit: outpatient service
The Pain Relief Unit lies at the heart of the Trust's pain management service. We are a centre of excellence for the clinical management of chronic pain, and our associated pain research colleagues, headed by Professor Henry McQuay, are renowned for their evidence-based pain research.
The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, which provides a comprehensive service to patients with diverse pain problems.
Each patient requires a different approach to treatment; our individually tailored programmes address their needs. Our aim is to provide patients with the education and skills to manage their pain effectively and to make sure that they fully understand their condition. This forms a major part of each consultation. Patients in the care of the unit can seek advice via a nurse-led telephone service.
