The Children's Hospital opened its doors to patients in January, 2007. Children’s services in Oxford, including those at the Radcliffe Infirmary (now closed), Churchill and main John Radcliffe Hospital have moved to this purpose-built facility. For the first time, this brings all children’s services in Oxford together in one child and family-friendly environment.
Facilities from the atrium to the clinics and wards have been designed specifically for the welfare of children, teenagers and their families.
The hospital includes a spacious outpatients department next to a new children's radiology department and a paediatric assessment centre.
Children are treated here for a range of conditions including heart disease, chest disease, childhood cancer, neurological disorders and those requiring general or specialist surgery.
There is accommodation for parents to stay overnight, either next to their child’s bed or in a dedicated parent/carers accommodation suite.
The integration of children's services will offer many benefits for patients. For example, all children having major surgery will be close to intensive care: parents of unwell children who previously had to travel between three sites for regular appointments will now only have to visit the one site.
The fundraising campaign for the hospital has so far reached an incredible £13.8 million from trusts and foundations, individuals and corporate gifts. If you would like to find out more about how you can help raise funds for the Children's Hospital contact Penny Hambridge on 01865 743445 or email: penny.hambridge@orh.nhs.uk.|
