Volunteering
If you would like to help make a difference to the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals then volunteering is something you should consider. There are many different ways in which you can assist us, all of which support our work and help to raise money. Some examples are given below, but please do call us on 01865 743444 if you’d like to find out more.
Table sales
We regularly hold a table-top sale (pictured right) at the John Radcliffe Hospital, and are always looking for volunteers to help man the stall.
Publicity
There are many different roles within the publicity side of the charity, including:
-
designing posters for advertising events
-
keeping our notice boards up to date and restocking leaflet holders around the hospitals
You may not think some of these tasks will make a big difference but just think, for example, how many people walk past the notice boards every day. They might just be inspired to make an enquiry and get further involved. One family recently donated £5,000 after seeing a poster telling them about the need for a particular piece of equipment in one of the wards.
Website and printed materials:
-
help out with the website
-
assist in writing articles for local publications and our quarterly fundraising newsletter (TORCH)
-
general proof-reading
-
draft press releases about fundraising events and news.
General office support:
-
help to put mailings together
-
research contact details for targeted mail
-
various other administrative tasks.
Things that need to be done outside office hours:
-
give presentations about our work to schools, offices and other community groups
-
represent us at cheque presentations (visiting community fundraisers to receive money and thank them)
-
help us start up new ways of fundraising. We want to branch out and use social networking sites (like Facebook), so you could help us research these types of websites. We’d like to know how other charities use them and how we could use them to promote our events and then create a group, which you could help administer
-
take part in a street collection from time to time
-
maintain and collect the collection cans we have in local businesses
-
restock leaflets and put up posters around the community
-
attend and help at events.
Ann is a volunteer who is helping us raise money for the new Cancer Centre. We talked to her and found out what she thinks of volunteering:
“The best part of being a volunteer is going home at the end of the day and knowing that you’ve been able to help patients in many different ways. There is an immense sense of achievement in this.”
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and making a difference, please call us on 01865 743444.
