The Radiation Physics and Protection Group provides the following services across Oxfordshire.

  • Support for diagnostic imaging – quality assurance programmes.
  • Optimisation programmes – the balance between image quality and radiation dose.
  • Support to nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology and oncology.
  • Radiopharmacy services.
  • Support for non-ionising radiations – lasers, UV, ultrasound, MR.
  • Regulatory compliance.
  • Ethics support for trials involving radiation.
  • Teaching and training programmes for all staff groups using radiation.
  • Comprehensive radiation protection services, including staff radiation dose monitoring and minimisation.
  • Support to HIFU  (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound).

Teaching and training

We provide: 

  • courses in radiation and laser safety for other staff groups
  • teaching for radiologists undertaking FRCR
  • accredited training for healthcare scientists, medical physics pathway.
