A tribute to Ann Beerling from her friends and colleagues

Friends and colleagues of Ann Beerling have raised over £1,500 for Cancer Research UK as a tribute to the John Radcliffe neuroradiology nurse who lost her fight against lung cancer in November last year.

Ann joined Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary on 5 March 1990, working in maternity and plastic surgery theatres before settling in neuroradiology at the Radcliffe Infirmary in 1994, then moving with the department to the West Wing at the John Radcliffe Hospital in 2007.

Ann's clinical skills and knowledge made her an inspirational colleague, helping to train many neuroradiologists and nurses.  Her passion for her work, dedication and commitment to her patients made Ann a valued and much loved member of the team.

Ann's passion for helping others also extended outside of work. She donated much of her time to fundraising, particularly for breast cancer and childhood diabetes charities. She would always be in training for a fundraising event, encouraging colleagues to join her.

Ann was first diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2009 and throughout her illness was determined to remain positive for her family and friends. Sadly she lost her fight the following November.

Virginia Playford, Deputy Theatre Manager, West Wing Theatres said, "Those who knew Ann know her three passions were her family, her work and her fundraising. In keeping with Ann's spirit we raised the money in the hope that something good could come from her death.  Ann will sadly be missed by all her friends, family and colleagues who will remember her for her friendship, commitment and dedication to everything she loved."
