It's Not Just a Walk in the Park

Date: 04 August 2009
"It's Not Just a Walk in the Park" is raising funds for both the Oxford Cancer and Heart Centres and will be taking place in the University Parks on Sunday October 18.

Walk for the Cancer and Heart centres

The much loved Oxford-based presenter Wesley Smith has already started his pre-walk training with Dorothy Jupp from Witney and some of her belly dancing friends.

Sixty-six year old Dorothy has been treated for angina for the past year at the John Radcliffe and has already signed up to do the walk. She said: "I have been very reassured by the level of care that I have received and when I heard about the walk decided this would be a great way to say thank you".

The event has been expanded to allow people to walk in support of the Heart Centre – due to open on the John Radcliffe site this Autumn – as well the Cancer Centre which opened in March.

The gentle three-mile route is suitable for people of all ages and abilities, wheelchair users and buggies. Money raised will help to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, going beyond the NHS standard – and facilities to make the centres more comfortable for patients and their visitors.

Entry is just £7.50 in advance for adults, and children under 16 walk for free. Walkers are asked to try and raise at least £50 in sponsorship money, with all proceeds going to the new Oxford Cancer Centre at the Churchill Hospital, or the Oxford Heart Centre, currently being built on the John Radcliffe site. To take part in the walk people should call Cynth on 01865 743444 or visit www.orhcharitablefunds.nhs.uk/events|
