New mums Julie Read and Hannah Hill were at the Cotswold Maternity Unit at the new Chipping Norton War Memorial Hospital, to be presented with a special gift on Friday 25 March at 12pm.
The gift is to commemorate their role in local history; Julie as the last mother to give birth at the old Chipping Norton Hospital, and Hannah as the first mother to give birth in the new Cotswold Maternity Unit at the new Chipping Norton War Memorial Hospital.
Julie Read, 37, was the last mother to give birth at the old site. Julie gave birth to baby Tillie (Tyla Aasha Read) on 20 February 2011 at 9.23am. Baby Tillie weighed 7lb 4oz (3320g). Tillie is a first baby for Julie and husband Keith. Julie, from North Leigh near Witney was attended by midwives Alison Sangwine and Mary Price.
Hannah Hill gave birth to her first baby Olivia Louisa Crapper Hill on 6 March 2011 at 16.18pm at the new Cotswold Maternity Unit. Baby Olivia weighed 7lb 7oz (3355g). Hannah, 30, and partner Jason live in Witney. Hannah was attended by midwives Lou Westwood, Mary Price and student midwife Becca Mangan.
Community Midwife Cheryl Keeble, Team Leader at the Cotswold Maternity Unit said: "We are delighted to celebrate these two landmark births at the old hospital and the new hospital and so we have invited Julie and Hannah here today to give them a small presentation. We want to congratulate them not only on their beautiful baby girls but also on their significant place in our local history."
The new Cotswold Maternity Unit has two birthing pools, both with en suite facilities, a larger and improved waiting area and greatly improved space for antenatal and postnatal drop-in and breastfeeding support.
