High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) was featured in a new flagship programme for BBC World news called The Health Show. Dr David Cranston and the inventor of HIFU in China, Professor Wu, talked about the benefits to patients of using HIFU compared to that of more invasive surgery. The technique is being used at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford on a clinical trials basis, but it is hoped that results from the trials will be positive and offer an alternative way of getting rid of cancerous tumours in the future.
Gas licence helps lung patients|
The Radiology Department at the Churchill Hospital (part of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust) has just been licensed to manufacture Hyperpolarised Xenon gas for patient use.

Joint funding for multiple sclerosis research|
The Oxford Biomedical Research Centre and the MS Society| have joined forces to fund a three year Clinical Research Fellowship to carry out translational research into basic or clinical aspects of multiple sclerosis (MS).
New two-drug approach to treat type of respiratory disease|
A therapy combining two existing drugs could provide an effective new approach for treating patients with pleural infections, a serious condition where infected fluid builds up in the space between the ribs and lungs.
