Collaboration
Clinical Fellow Dr Mary Thompson is looking at how the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust can best work with our partners in primary and social care, with the help of Oxford Clinical Collaborative, a group of hospital doctors and GPs who advise the Primary Care Trust on how to use our services efficiently.
There are also plans for information to be shared more easily between the out-of-hours GP service and the ORH: one solution could be an out-of-hours GP service based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, close to the Emergency Department. There is already one at the Horton Hospital and it is working well.
Hospital is not always approprate for patients who are terminally ill, and Dr Mary Thompson is exploring ways of supporting nursing homes, by sharing information with them and helping them to make referral decisions. This will enable us to provide the best 'end-of-life' care, and to respect the needs and wishes of patients and their families.
