'Extraordinary Developments' in the Emergency Department
Our emergency departments (EDs) have always been a high profile part of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, and the four hour emergency target was one of the biggest challenges ever given to the NHS. Meeting the challenge is not only about the ED itself, but how it interacts with the rest of the hospital and primary and social care.
Results of a Healthcare Commission patient survey, |published in January 2009, showed that nine out of ten of the patients that were questioned rated their care at emergency departments in Oxford and Banbury as good, very good or excellent. The ORH scored above the national average in almost all categories, and was in the top 20 per cent of all trusts for a number of the questions asked. A report in September 2008 recognised the system for delivery of emergency care in Oxfordshire as one of the best.
Extraordinary Developments (ED)
The Extraordinary Developments programme aims to simplify the processes needed to achieve targets while keeping the focus on patient care – in particular at the John Radcliffe Hospital Emergency Department. This will improve and sustain standards of patient care and reduce waiting times. The programme is led by the staff themselves, with support from two of the Clinical Fellows.
