Respiratory MedicineCollaborative Research Group Lead: Prof John Stradling The past year has seen significant progress in pushing forward the joint strategies for the Sleep Apnoea and Pleural Diseases programmes which represent the core work within this CRG. The CRG’s partners are spread across the UK and internationally in Europe and the US. A number of new partners have recently been added to the CRG from the NHS, universities and commercial sector. Research in Sleep Apnoea is based around the busy Sleep Unit and focuses on treating patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). A new collaboration with the cardiology department is also underway to examine fMRI changes in patients with OSA and it is hoped that a bid for funding from the BHF to fund a study into the effects of Continuous Positive Airways Pressure will be successful. The Pleural Diseases programme of work examines the underlying mechanisms of pleural diseases through basic research and clinical studies. In addition, Oxford Pleural Group has established the International Pleural Newsletter which has an international circulation of over 15,000 and aims to disseminate best practice. |
