The Role of the R&D DepartmentThe OUH R&D Department is located in the joint Research Office, Block 60, Churchill Hospital. The department works closely with Oxford University CTRG team, and both are headed by Heather House (R&D Lead). R&D has a role in:
The research governance team supports and advises researchers in meeting the requirements of local and UK regulatory frameworks, including Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (OUH) Management Approval, ICH GCP Guidelines, DOH Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care 2005, Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) 2004/2006/2008, Data Protection Act 1998, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Tissue Act 2004, Health and Social Care Act 2001 and the requirements of NRES/IRAS. Risk assessments are carried out on OUH Trust sponsored and hosted clinical trials. Contracts are negotiated with external organisations for commercial and non-commercial trials. The team has an ongoing monitoring responsibility for clinical trials and other studies sponsored by the OUH Trust and for audit of research hosted by the OUH Trust. The finance team offers advice and support in costing studies and have a role in managing accounts for commercial and non-commercial trials. NHS staff applying for research grants are encouraged to seek advice early to ensure their study is properly resourced.
